Spammers Suck

Ok. So the spammers are really getting annoying. I pretty much have to check my blog about once every couple of days to clean out my comments. I get everything from online poker sites to getting cheap drugs. It's just silly now.

On a related note, I really don't know if I'm fully happy with MT-Blacklist. I've been using it to filter my comments but I'm not sure if it's really that good. I mean, once you actually identify a URL or something in a comment that flags it as spam and add that to the MT-Blacklist database it works fine. My only issue is you still have to come back and add new things to the database of filtered items. I wish there was something more auto-magical, kinda like the way email spam filters work. Any suggestions?

Snowstorm? Where?

Apparently this weekend Nova Scotia was hit by a HUGE snowstorm. So big in fact that it's now Monday and 100,000 people in the province are still without power. Not bad eh? Now here's the funny part. The total snowfall over the weekend was somewhere around 30cm. Well, you might say, that doesn't seem like much. You'd be right! I will concede that wind was also a factor. The CBC reported that gusts got up to 70km/h. That is some pretty good wind but still only gusts, not sustained.

Ok, so maybe being from Newfoundland might have desensitized me a little when it comes to snowstorms. I'll concede that point. One glaring fact that I did find out that really suprised me was that the "storm" this weekend brought down more power tranmission centers than Hurricane Juan did. That's right, a CATEGORY 2 HURRICANE was topped by 70 km/h gusts and 30cm of snow! I'm sorry but that is just ridiculous.

Today at the news conference held by Nova Scotia Power about the "storm" they instead got called out by an outraged woman who attended. Who can blame her? I think there should be more of us up in arms about this! What kind of a state is our power grid in?

The best part of it all is that one of the many postponed meetings throughout the province today was a meeting between Nova Scotia Power and the provincial government. The topic of this postponed meeting? A rate hike of 14% for NSP!!! This is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!

Just think, I'm this worked up about the situation and I didn't even lose power! Think of the poor woman who interrupted the NSP news conference today that has 4 or 5 kids in a house that doesn't have heat or hot water!

I think it's time for NSP to get it's act together. Don't you?
