Blizzard Again

It looks nasty outside right now, just plain old nasty. Halifax is getting hit with it's 3rd blizzard in a little over a week. It's a good thing it's Sunday and all I was planning to do today anyways was lounging on my couch and watching football. It's all about Championship Sunday! GO STEELERS!

Back to Hali

I'm back in Hali after a great Christmas vacation. I loved being home for a solid 2 weeks. It was really relaxing. I got back in the city on New Year's Day so I even had a couple of days to do some shopping and chill before I had to go back to work today.

As for my post-Christmas shopping I picked up a new set of ball hockey goalie pads, a new goalie stick, a copy of the extended edition of the Return of the King DVD and Metal Gear Solid 3. I can't wait to try out my new pads tomorrow at hockey. It's been a few weeks since we played ball hockey so the day after tomorrow will probably be a little painful but it's all good!

I haven't had a chance to get into Metal Gear Solid 3 yet but from what I have played it looks like a wicked game! I can't wait to get into it.

I won't however be playing Metal Gear tonight though cause tonight it's World Junior Hockey baby!! Canada is playing Russia for the gold medal. How good is this going to be!

GO CANADA!!!

Jeopardy Dynasty

What I thought would never happen finally happened. Ken Jennings, the guy who racked up over $2.5 million on Jeopardy, has lost. I figured that he was unstoppable and would be retired after 100 episodes or so, but that was not the case. It seems funny to me the he lost on his 75th episode after winning just over $2.5 million. I guess we may never know if he threw the last question or not.

Either way a lady by the name of Nancy Zerg beat him on the last question, or should i say answer. :)

"Most of this firm's 70,000 seasonal white-collar employees work only four months a year."

That's gonna be a popular quiz question for a while now I figure. Ken said FedEx, not a bad answer (or question) but and correct answer, which Nancy got, was H&R Block. Like alot of people I think it will be a while before I forget that little tidbit.

You had a great run Ken. You're a party of pop culture history now. Congrats and thanks!

Golfing in September

I finally got back out on the golf couse today. It's been a couple of weeks and since I don't think there are going to be many golfing weekends left this year it was great to get out. I didn't play that well but it was definitely fun. I hope next weekend is as nice as this weekend was so I can get out again.

This weekend also marked the first appearance of the spectacular Queen Mary 2 in Halifax. It is definitely an amazing site! I went down the Point Pleasant Park to watch it come into the harbour and a larger ship I have never seen. I'm hoping to actually go for a cruise on it someday. Not going to be for awhile but someday for sure!

That's it for me. L8r.

Tall Ships

The Tall Ships have finally arrived here in Halifax. It's actually really cool to walk down the waterfront in the morning on my way to work and see them all. I'll never fight against a change in the scenery every now and again.

There are tons of things going on in the city this weekend. The waterfront is full of beer tents and stands selling all kinds of different things. It definitely changes the look of the waterfront that's for sure. I'm sure good times will be had by all this weekend.

Let the weekend begin! :)

Home for Awhile

This week I am at home in Newfoundland for a visit. I was planning on coming down next week but unfortunately one of my Uncles passed away so I ended up here a little sooner than I expected. Things are going pretty well considering the circumstances. My family is finally getting back to a somewhat normal routine now. It's definitely going to be different around here without my Uncle Morley around that's for sure.

It's pretty nice to get home for awhile. I'm hoping to try and get some relaxing in before I head back to Halifax next Wednesday. It's nice to be home and doing some work around the house to help out my parents. Today was the always fun chore of mowing the lawn. Tomorrow I think I might clean out my parents mini-van. Look at me enjoying household chores. I think I'm starting to get old. ;)

Blog What?

So yet again it's been awhile since I last made an entry. I think I might just stop trying and make an entry whenever I think about it. I remember as a kid I must have started to keep a journal about once a year. I got about a week of entries and then I just completely lost interest. Do I have a short attention span? Hard to say.

I haven't been playing golf as much as I have been lately. Work just gets in the doesn't it? Then of course when the weekend gets here it raining. I'm bad enough at golf when it's nice out but a round in the rain would just do me in I think ;)

We have been playing ball hockey at work every second week. It great fun. I'm definitely loving getting back into it. I got myself a set of new goalie equipment too. My team finally gots its first win last week. So we have a 1-4-1 record. Who really looks at stats anyways :) We are playing again next week so here hoping we can swing a 2 game winning streak. I hope we move to a once a week schedule. That would be perfect.

That's about it for now.

Ah Summer

I finally got my first real taste of summer today. First one of my buddies and I headed out to the driving range for the first time this year. Boy was it ever good to hit a golf ball again. It was definitely a slow start to the season but at least it's finally a start. :)

After golf a bunch of us got together to toss around the football. We tried to get enough people together to have an actual game but that didn't work out as well as we hoped. So instead 4 of us just tossed the ball around for an hour or so.

Of course after all that exercise we had to do something lazy. We went over the a buddies place, ordered pizza, drank beer and watched Master and Commander. I have been wanting to see it for awhile now but I would have to say that it was a little anti-climatic. It's not that it was a bad movie, it just wasn't as good as I was hoping for. Still a very good movie though.

Thats it for me today. Time to go and be lazy after all the exercise today. :p

Long Time No Post

So it's been awhile since I posted a message here. Guess I was right when I said that my blogging would drop of very dramatically. I love it when I'm right :)

There haven't been alot of big things happening to me. I have definitely been keeping busy though. Lately I of course have been intently watching the NHL playoffs. GO LEAFS GO!!! I was very happy when we beat Ottawa in the first round. We had a tough game last night again Phili but it was only the first game of the series so I'm not worried yet.

On a related note I finally made my first eBay purchase the other day. I got an official CCM Matts Sundin Maple Leafs Jeresy. It's awesome! Great jersey for a great price. I was quite happy with the whole eBay experience and will definitely be back in the future. Maybe for a Roberts jersey :)

That's it for you. I'm going to try and keep up the blogging again. Let's see how it works out this time around.

St Patrick Indeed

I had the gang over last night for some St. Patrick's Day festivities. We made some Irish Stew, had some green beer and partied it up. What made the stew irish you might ask? Well the inclusion of 2 pints of Guinness might have something to do with that :) It turned out perfectly. I'm thinking that recipe might definitely become a St. Patrick's Day tradition very quickly.

If you are ever on the hunt for a dish that involves beer I highly recommend the Beer and Food section of BeerAdvocate.com. It has some very interesting food ideas to say the least. I can't say how good they are but the Irish Stew recipe that we used came from there and it was awesome!

That's it for me. L8r.

Iron Ring Photos

I just posted some more pictures for Lauren in my photo album. They are from her Iron Ring night. Lots of pictures of engineers partying it up. Check them out here.

Not much new with me lately. I'm getting into watching some curling again. The Brier started this weekend so it's going to be a nice week of lounging around and watching tv. I can't wait! :)

Wing's Jersey Style

Last night for wing night we went to our usual spot. It just turns out that our usual spot has changed a little now. They have dropped the Don Cherry's franchise and are now called Jersey's. Basically it's the same place with a new name. The only difference in the wings is that the sauce is on the wings instead of on the side. I'm all for the change though. It's definitely messier but it's wings, they are supposed to be messy. :)

After wings I dragged myself home and did some much needed dish washing. I really can't decide if I hate doing the dishes or laundry more. It's a pretty tight race that's for sure. I think I need a million bucks and a maid :)

Pitchman's Don't

Boy is Pitchman's ever going down hill fast. It has gone from clean bar with a great atmosphere to having broken glass all over the place and a stage for bikini contests. Can anyone say Palace? Not good at all. I don't know how much we will be going back there anymore. Seems to me that it's time to find a new bar to start frequenting.

Not much else is going on with me. I have been taking it easy and enjoying a kind of slow time for me at work. I'm sure things will be speeding back up here in the near future though.

Now that the golf season has started up I want to get out more and more every day. This winter thing is getting old really really quick. Go away snow!

That's about it for me. I'm off to enjoy the weekend! L8r.

All Is Well

I've been back to work for two days now. Thanks to the huge cleanup effort I think Halifax is getting back to normal now. Finally!

The public bus system is now running but at a very limited scale. Apparently the waits for buses are crazy and when they show up alot of people can't get on because the bus is already full. Of course with still very narrow roadways traffic is still a mess too. Times like these I again thank myself for getting an apartment downtown. Work, groceries and hang out spots are all pretty much right next door. I love it!

Not much else new with me right now. L8r.

Can I Interest You In Some Snow?

I finally got a chance to get out and about today. After about an hour and a half at the Superstore to stock up on some food I took a drive around the city. I can't remember the last time that I saw this much snow. I am taken back to my childhood in Newfoundland. Back then we used to get a ton of snow and huge snow forts were commonplace for my friends and I.

However, I can't ever remembering seeing such a huge amount of snow falling in such a short time. It's not a word of a lie to say that at least a meter of snow has completely covered Halifax. All in one night to boot!

Right now most roads are one lane and most and sidewalks are pretty much waist deep in snow. In areas where a large amount of snow has gathered or the cleanup crews have made a pile the snow is well over my head. 7 to 12 foot piles of snow are quite common around the city right now. It's just crazy.

The public bus system hasn't been running since Wednesday. The city is planning on getting the roads widened enough for the buses to start running again on Monday. I say good luck with that one!

From what I saw around the city today the Monday morning commute to work is going to horrible. I'm just going to take a moment to thank myself for getting a nice downtown apartment that is well within walking distance of everywhere I need to get to. Walking to work is definitely the way to travel for the rest of next week at least.

Thats about it from a snow covered Hali. L8r.

Winter Wonderland

Well it's another day working from home for me. After Halifax got a blizzard that gave us a new daily snowfall record yesterday everyone has been asked to stay home. Hopefully the cleanup crews will get their work done and I can actually get out and about this afternoon. I think I'm getting a little stir crazy.

I telecommuted to work yesterday and will be doing the same today. This is my first real exposure to the world of working from home. I can say that the lack of distractions is nice but I still like being in the office more. It's the people person in me coming out :)

I was watching TV last night and was shocked to see the Brit Awards where being broadcast on CBC. I couldn't remember ever seeing CBC broadcast such a big pop culture event before. I'm not sure if the CBC is turning over a new leaf or not but I think I'm all for it. I have also been watching Snakes and Ladders on CBC. For those of you who don't know it a new Canadian political drama. It's like The West Wing only Canadian style. I'm loving it so far. Here's hoping it stays good.

That's about it for me today. Time to grab a shovel :) L8r.

More Photos

I just posted another photo album for Lauren. I think I see a nasty trend starting (joking of course). The album is of the Block Crawl her class had on Friday night. Looks like it was a ton of fun.

Not much new with me lately. I have been reading a book about project management this weekend. It is a book I borrowed from one of the guys at work. It has some really interesting opinions about how project management should be done and how to run a company in general. I'll try and post what I think about the book when I finish it.

I just found out the other day that when you get a project manager certification you get a PMP after your name. I have been thinking pretty hard about doing the required courses and write the tests to get it. I have always been interested in project management. Plus one more letter and I could be a PIMP! How cool would that be! :)

That's it for me. L8r.

Fridays Good

It seems that my blogging has again slowed down. I'm finding that my ability to remind myself to make a blog entry comes in fits and spurts. I'll think about it daily for a week and then not at all for an entire week. I think I might need to setup a "Go blog!" reminder in my calender or something.

Not much is new. Had a company meeting and get together yesterday and last night. We had a meeting to wrap up a very successful 2003 and to kick of a promising 2004. After all the good news we went to The Planet for some food, pool and beverages. Very very fun for sure. I had a blast!

Not much else new this week really. I don't really have any huge plans for the weekend either. Plans just get in the way I find anyways. It's much more fun to be spontaneous :)

That's it for me. L8r.

Let It Snow

I haven't been up to much lately. Work has been pretty crazy. I'm thinking it will be slowing down a little in the next couple of weeks though so it's all good.

I'm thinking harder and harder about taking a trip down south. A nice week long stay at a golf resort in Flordia sounds so good right now it's not even funny. I think a week in March will do just nicely.

So it turns out that you don't need that much cheeze to make pizzas. I have been eating food with cheeze in it all week in an effort to try and get rid of all of the cheeze that I bought for the Superbowl party. I'll never make that mistake again.

That's about it for me. L8r.

Does This Happen To Normal People??

Last night was the strangest wing night ever. It got me to wondering if I'm in a movie of something. Welcome to "The Paul Show" everyone.

So last night the guys and I decided to switch up our usual wing night and go to the Ale House on Wednesday instead of Don Cherry's on Thursday. After some complaining and bickering about "f**king with the rotation" we ended up getting to the Ale house around 7ish, about an hour after we wer hoping to get there. We sat down and took our coats off in just enough time to be informed that they we out of wings. Yes that's right, the wing place ran out of wings. We have had a history of stupid stuff like this happening to us. The Cable people being out of cable, the Ale House being out of ale and now the wing people are out of wings.

We figure this was a sign and considered just giving up right there. We however decided to keep going and try Pitchman's. They did indeed have wings. There was much rejoicing. We ate not quite our fill (good wings but small) and got ready to pay. Then one the bartenders came over and asked us if we were going to the Mooseheads game. After we said no he asked us if we wanted to go. After we gave him a confused look he proceeded to present us with 4 tickets to the game! Best bar ever! Of course we took the tickets and went to the game.

The tickets turned out to like 5 rows back from ice level. Great seats to say the least. The Mooseheads won 5-4 against the Eagles, the best team in the league.

Our night went from bad to good in the span of like 30 minutes. It was a great night full of wings and free hockey tickets. I think Wednesday might be a good wing night day afterall! :)

Great Weekend

It seems that my blogging has slowed down already. Just didn't feel like posting much last week. I'll try and get my posting frequency up again this week.

I had a great weekend. On friday a bunch of us went over to a friends place and then out to Pitchman's. Had a great time. I may or may not have been referred to as a dancing queen :) On saturday I went over to a co-workers place in the evening for what I affectionately refer to as a Nerd Party. We basically sat down and played video games all night. There were about 10 of us there so it was really fun.

Last night Lauren and I played squash. I have to get back into a regular habit of playing. I love playing but just don't get the chance to very often anymore.

Not much else new with me. I think I'm going to try and get tickets to the Mooseheads game of friday. I haven't been to a game all season. I'm the worst fan ever. LOL.

That's it for now. L8r.

Ah The Weekend

Not much going on with me lately. I managed to crawl out of bed today around noon. I felt like a slob for about a minute then I got over it :)

Lauren and I went to Club Price (a.k.a. Costco) to get some chips for the football game watching at my place tomorrow. After that we came back to my apartment and watched Pirates of the Caribbean. I hadn't seen it before tonight. I can definitely say I enjoyed it. Great effects with the skeletons. Pretty good story line. All in all a pretty decent movie.

Not much else going on here tonight. Might hit the bed and rest up for football tomorrow. Night everyone!

Best TV Ever!!

I finally got my new TV. That's right, as I type I am watching the Family Guy on my brand new 27" Song Vega TV :) I absolutely love it! Can't go wrong with at wicked TV at a wicked price. I can't wait for football this weekend. It's gonna be awesome! Can you tell I'm a little excited? :D

I picked up Nancy from the airport tonight. She is crashing here for a few days while she straightening out school stuff. Any of you that went to Dalhousie know how much fun that can be.

Well not much else new with me, except for the TV that is :) I'm hoping to go and give the indoor golf a try soon. I'm definitely not going to make it until spring without some sort of golfing. It may involve glow in the dark mini-putt but damn it I really need to play some golf! I think I might have a problem. LOL.

That's it for today. L8r.

Winter What?

So it turns out winter is here after all. It was wicked cold here today. Apparently it got down to around -30 celcius with the wind chill. Not cool at all. Now is the about when I should be getting on a plane to move south until summer. I think a nice 3 or 4 month stint of playing golf amoung palm trees would be just right about now. The colder it gets the more I realize that I won't be getting on a golf course anytime soon. I think it might be time to give indoor golf a go :)

I haven't been doing much lately. I staying home last night and watched The West Wing. BEST SHOW EVER!! I think tonight the guys and I are going to re-live some of out residence days and head out to the T-Room. For those who don't know that's the DalTech campus bar. Oh the memories. Oh the missing memories. Should be a wicked time.

That's about it for today. L8r.

Happy Birthday Pookie!

Just wanted to give a birthday shout-out to Gareth, more affectionately known as Pookie. A bunch of us went out the Maxwell's Plum tonight to celebrate. Had some food, had some beers, had a wicked time.

Over the past couple of days I also managed to FINALLY get my guestbook working. I found a bug in it a number of months ago and took it offline to fix it. I however never really got around to it until recently but it's up and working now so sign away! If you do happen to find any more bugs just email me and let me know. For those who don't know my guestbook was a result of me saying "How hard could it be to write a guestbook?" to a couple of friends back in my school days. So of course after saying that I just had to prove it. Turns out you can put a really simple guestbook together pretty quickly. It's the working out of the bugs in a program that is rarely used that takes awhile :)

That's it for today. Have a good one!

FIRST POST!!!

So I did it. I broke down and went and got myself a blog.

I'm still not convinced about the addictive quality of a blog that I keep getting told about so I'm not sure how often I will be posting here. I'm going to try to keep it around 2 or 3 a week. I guess that will be a good measure for everyone (including myself) to see if I really am getting addicted or not.

POSTS > 3 per week = Addicted Paul :p

My blog will hopefully keep you all up to date on what is going on in my life right now, what I am thinking about, what I am reading about and general stuff that I encounter. Should be an interesting ride.

ENJOY!!
