Does This Happen To Normal People??

Last night was the strangest wing night ever. It got me to wondering if I'm in a movie of something. Welcome to "The Paul Show" everyone.

So last night the guys and I decided to switch up our usual wing night and go to the Ale House on Wednesday instead of Don Cherry's on Thursday. After some complaining and bickering about "f**king with the rotation" we ended up getting to the Ale house around 7ish, about an hour after we wer hoping to get there. We sat down and took our coats off in just enough time to be informed that they we out of wings. Yes that's right, the wing place ran out of wings. We have had a history of stupid stuff like this happening to us. The Cable people being out of cable, the Ale House being out of ale and now the wing people are out of wings.

We figure this was a sign and considered just giving up right there. We however decided to keep going and try Pitchman's. They did indeed have wings. There was much rejoicing. We ate not quite our fill (good wings but small) and got ready to pay. Then one the bartenders came over and asked us if we were going to the Mooseheads game. After we said no he asked us if we wanted to go. After we gave him a confused look he proceeded to present us with 4 tickets to the game! Best bar ever! Of course we took the tickets and went to the game.

The tickets turned out to like 5 rows back from ice level. Great seats to say the least. The Mooseheads won 5-4 against the Eagles, the best team in the league.

Our night went from bad to good in the span of like 30 minutes. It was a great night full of wings and free hockey tickets. I think Wednesday might be a good wing night day afterall! :)

Great Weekend

It seems that my blogging has slowed down already. Just didn't feel like posting much last week. I'll try and get my posting frequency up again this week.

I had a great weekend. On friday a bunch of us went over to a friends place and then out to Pitchman's. Had a great time. I may or may not have been referred to as a dancing queen :) On saturday I went over to a co-workers place in the evening for what I affectionately refer to as a Nerd Party. We basically sat down and played video games all night. There were about 10 of us there so it was really fun.

Last night Lauren and I played squash. I have to get back into a regular habit of playing. I love playing but just don't get the chance to very often anymore.

Not much else new with me. I think I'm going to try and get tickets to the Mooseheads game of friday. I haven't been to a game all season. I'm the worst fan ever. LOL.

That's it for now. L8r.

The Superbowl is Set

Looks like it's going to be New England and Carolina in the Superbowl. Should be a good game but I'm pretty sure that New England will take it. It's not that I like the Patriots, I just don't think the Panthers can beat them. You just gotta bet on the 900lb gorilla.

Not much else new with me. The guys were over yesterday to take in the football games. I think they all agreed that a nice TV makes all the difference :)

Well I think it's time for some much needed vegging. To the couch I go! L8r!

Ah The Weekend

Not much going on with me lately. I managed to crawl out of bed today around noon. I felt like a slob for about a minute then I got over it :)

Lauren and I went to Club Price (a.k.a. Costco) to get some chips for the football game watching at my place tomorrow. After that we came back to my apartment and watched Pirates of the Caribbean. I hadn't seen it before tonight. I can definitely say I enjoyed it. Great effects with the skeletons. Pretty good story line. All in all a pretty decent movie.

Not much else going on here tonight. Might hit the bed and rest up for football tomorrow. Night everyone!

Is Random Really Random?

At work the other day one of my co-workers needed some random numbers. He used www.random.org. I had never heard of the site so I checked it out. I have always been interested in random number generators since I read a descrete mathematics book, "Jungles of Randomness", back in university.

You see one chapter in the book proposed an idea that still intrigues me to this day. It states that truely random sequences of numbers simply do not exist. I apologize for not remembering the authors name or who actually make this statement. The reasoning tied to chaos theory. Chaos theory basicially states that seemingly random systems can produce effects that form patterns. This is a very very simplified explaination but it's what I understand it to be.

So when I checked out www.random.org I found that they generate their random numbers by using radio static. They have a radio tuned into a station that no one broadcasts on and from the static they claim to generate truely random numbers. They do this basically by converting the audio into a stream of bits and then run it through a skew algorithm to ensure a fairly homogeneous mixture of 0's and 1's.

What were my thoughts on this? Well, if you believe in chaos theory then can you also believe that there are truely random numbers? Radio static is a seemingly random system but chaos theory states that order can be derived from any seeminly random system. This leads me to conclude that the numbers from www.random.org are not truely random.

So are their any truely random numbers? Personally, I don't believe there are. Just because we don't understand how things interrelate doesn't mean that they don't. Not only do we not understand all things, we probably never will.

Well after those deep thoughts I think it's time for a beer. :p L8r!

Best TV Ever!!

I finally got my new TV. That's right, as I type I am watching the Family Guy on my brand new 27" Song Vega TV :) I absolutely love it! Can't go wrong with at wicked TV at a wicked price. I can't wait for football this weekend. It's gonna be awesome! Can you tell I'm a little excited? :D

I picked up Nancy from the airport tonight. She is crashing here for a few days while she straightening out school stuff. Any of you that went to Dalhousie know how much fun that can be.

Well not much else new with me, except for the TV that is :) I'm hoping to go and give the indoor golf a try soon. I'm definitely not going to make it until spring without some sort of golfing. It may involve glow in the dark mini-putt but damn it I really need to play some golf! I think I might have a problem. LOL.

That's it for today. L8r.

The Packers have fallen

The Packers lost. What was a great game for the first 3 quarters. It just fell apart in the 4th. I can't believe we didn't go for it on 4th and 1. Ah well. Now I will have to devote my cheering for anyone that is playing against New England. It's not about the Patriots! The Colts win this afternoon was just amazing. If they had any defence then I might consider cheering for them.

Looks like it's going to be another weekend of football next weekend. Just have to get through this pesky work week first :p

Football Football Football!!

So it's the weekend again and more football is here :) The guys are coming over tonight to watch the New England vs Tennessee game. Should be a great game. I can't wait until the Packers take on the Eagles tomorrow. That should be a pretty good game too. GO PACKERS!!

I caught word of a wicked deal on a TV on Friday at Future Shop. I started to think that a 27" Sony Wega would look pretty damn nice in my living room. Of course when I went to Future Shop there were out of stock. They just never seem to have anything in stock when I want it. I'm going to keep checking back and hopefully I'll have a new TV in time for the Superbowl. Now that would be sweet!

One of my friends, Lauren, game me a daily calender that has brain teasers on each day. So far the only one to stump me was related to U.S. Presidents. It listed 6 Presidents and you had to figure out why the list was significant. After some web searching it turns out the list was the 6 youngest U.S. Presidents, at their deaths, in ascending order. Not really much of a brain teaser as a history lesson but ah well.

Anyways, I'm off to make some supper and settle in to the football game. L8r.

Winter What?

So it turns out winter is here after all. It was wicked cold here today. Apparently it got down to around -30 celcius with the wind chill. Not cool at all. Now is the about when I should be getting on a plane to move south until summer. I think a nice 3 or 4 month stint of playing golf amoung palm trees would be just right about now. The colder it gets the more I realize that I won't be getting on a golf course anytime soon. I think it might be time to give indoor golf a go :)

I haven't been doing much lately. I staying home last night and watched The West Wing. BEST SHOW EVER!! I think tonight the guys and I are going to re-live some of out residence days and head out to the T-Room. For those who don't know that's the DalTech campus bar. Oh the memories. Oh the missing memories. Should be a wicked time.

That's about it for today. L8r.

Happy Birthday Pookie!

Just wanted to give a birthday shout-out to Gareth, more affectionately known as Pookie. A bunch of us went out the Maxwell's Plum tonight to celebrate. Had some food, had some beers, had a wicked time.

Over the past couple of days I also managed to FINALLY get my guestbook working. I found a bug in it a number of months ago and took it offline to fix it. I however never really got around to it until recently but it's up and working now so sign away! If you do happen to find any more bugs just email me and let me know. For those who don't know my guestbook was a result of me saying "How hard could it be to write a guestbook?" to a couple of friends back in my school days. So of course after saying that I just had to prove it. Turns out you can put a really simple guestbook together pretty quickly. It's the working out of the bugs in a program that is rarely used that takes awhile :)

That's it for today. Have a good one!

Ben Affleck Don't!

So I went to check out the new Ben Affleck flick Paycheck tonight with Dawn. The movie was mildly entertaining but I just didn't get into it. Dawn and I were chatting about it afterwards and I couldn't really decide specifically why I disliked the movie. Besides the fact that Ben Affleck playing the a genius holds about as much water as a bucket made of tissue paper I just flat out didn't like the movie. The plot made me think that I should have liked the movie but I just didn't. I guess that will learn me for next time, Sci Fi + Pop Culture = Bad.

After the movie I went down to the Fireside to meet up with a couple of the guys, Larder and Kert, and hed a couple martinis. Definitely good times. How can you beat $4 martinis really? :)

That pretty much it for me tonight. Think I might catch some late night news and then some sleep.

Have a good one!

GO PACKERS!!!

BEST TEAM EVER!!!

I just finished watching the Packers Wild Card game and boy was it a good one! That was one of the most exciting football games I have ever seen. Not often do I start yelling at the TV during a football game but I definitely did today. Harris returning that pick for a touchdown to win the game was a wicked ending. Favre had one of those magic quarters in the 4th too. What a game! I'm a Packers fan if you can't tell. Let's hope Favre and Green can keep it going and lead us to the Superbowl!

Let's see. What else is up with me. Not much really. Been watching lots of football this weekend if you haven't already guessed that one. It's just that time of the year I suppose. I have already decided I'm having a Superbowl party. Now I just need a big screen TV :)

Anyways, I'm off to watch the Colts and Broncos game. Have a good one.

FIRST POST!!!

So I did it. I broke down and went and got myself a blog.

I'm still not convinced about the addictive quality of a blog that I keep getting told about so I'm not sure how often I will be posting here. I'm going to try to keep it around 2 or 3 a week. I guess that will be a good measure for everyone (including myself) to see if I really am getting addicted or not.

POSTS > 3 per week = Addicted Paul :p

My blog will hopefully keep you all up to date on what is going on in my life right now, what I am thinking about, what I am reading about and general stuff that I encounter. Should be an interesting ride.

ENJOY!!
